WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

The workshop aims to examine the musicality of the body and vice versa the corporeality of music from a choreographic perspective. This approach corresponds with the extension of the concept of music as well as the questioning of performance traditions in the context of New Music, which also puts a stronger emphasis on the body.

Together with the participants, Polish choreographer and performer Karol Tymiński will research other forms of sound generation and composition through the body, which will be based on his work This is a musical (2016). Through practical experimentation as well as reflective moments the performative aspects of music, sound and noise and their relation to the body will be approached.

Among others, questions of interest will be:

-        Through which techniques/procedures can the (moving) body be used as an instrument?

-        How can different ways of producing sound be used as a tool for (movement) research?

-        What is the relationship between sound, body, temporality, and space?

How does sound relate to identity politics?
